Nubar – Midnight Matte – Night Sky Collection – Spring/Summer 2010

Wednesday, 2 June, 2010

I know I’ve said it before – I am not a fan of matte nail polishes.  They’re difficult to apply and if you mess it up, there is no way to really fix it. The only true bonus to them? They dry fast. Um, yay?

Nubar’s formula for this polish was no different. I’m a bit angry with myself for purchasing their collection and I will put up the other 2 swatches tomorrow. I didn’t put a top coat all the way on the polish to show how it looks, but I did put it on the tips.

My apologies for the bad shot in the shade…I had my camera set to a different setting and I forgot to put it back.

Before you say it or think it, yes. I am a nail tape n00b. Look at those definitive lines. *sigh* I’ll be practicing more with them…You’ll see if I improve tomorrow. 😀

OPI – Damone Roberts 1968 / Nubar – Knight’s Armor and Nubar 2010

Friday, 14 May, 2010

I didn’t know where to begin. I got a box and a puffy padded envelope full of nail polish in under 24 hours. I was squeeing with glee.

I couldn’t make up my mind, so I ended up just trying on Knight’s Armor, then deciding to swatch it. So it’s a sloppier than usual application for ALL these swatches. I just got a little too excited.

As for the Damone Roberts one, I had originally been wearing Knight’s Armor on my left hand and DR1968 on the other. Hah. I liked how DR1968 looked on my right hand, so I took off KA (as you might see some glitter in the DR1968 swatch) and now all my fingers are sporting DR1968…with one lone exception: my thumb. That has Nubar 2010 on top of it. I was all over the place today.

Thumbshot – Damone Roberts 1968 with Nubar 2010. Regular Shade and Sunlight shots below!

I was fully prepared to NOT like this color. I put it on…and I really liked it. I bought a few extra bottles because I plan on having a give away here soon, so stay tuned. Anyway, this formula was slightly thicker than the usual OPI but what I liked most is that it dried fast, which is unusual. This is 3 coats because I suck at applying nail polish.

I think my really bad photography skills came into play here. I feel like I made this polish look ugly. It’s not. It’s so gorgeous. I wanted to compare it to Orly’s Goth, but it wouldn’t be fair to either of the polishes. This glitter is all one size and the base for this is a bit more dark grey. Also, there is more glitter in this than Goth. Orly’s Goth is a black base with different sizes of the glitter. This was truly fabulous. Knight’s Armor is part of Nubar’s Fortress Collection.

The formula dried quickly and wasn’t as gritty due to the glitter. I have the Sparkles collection as well and that glitter collection is beautiful, but it’s so dense that when I applied a top coat, it never was a full glossy shine. You’d end up seeing and feeling the texture of the glitter underneath.

I’ll be swatching Nubar’s Fortress Collection soon, but in the meantime, I just had to get this pretty color out there and into my swatch blog.

NFU Oh – #52

Tuesday, 13 April, 2010

This…wow. It’s just as noteworthy as #51. Love that it’s a dark jelly with awesome glitter.

It looks purple, but it’s not. My camera didn’t capture it well. It got the glitter right, though. Words fail me on how to describe this color/polish. All I can say is…AWESOME!

Barielle – Blackened Bleu

Friday, 9 April, 2010

A black jelly with a blue micro glitter – it’s super pretty! I am not a fan of the jelly base, though. It took 3 coats to get this color.

I’d have used the bottle in the pictures, but thanks to an explosive bottle of polish in transit, it covered the bottle in turquoise!

Loving the blue glitter in it. Something about this shade of blue on black…it’s gorgeous!

Orly's Goth & Barielle's Slate of Affairs

Tuesday, 23 March, 2010

So the little black nail polish wearing, corset sporting, goth girl at heart loves this color…and not because of the name! I’ve always had a tendency to lean towards dark nail polish and this is no exception…even if it has glitter. What I love about this is actually the glitter…it’s silver against black – yay!! – but not only that it’s different sizes: big, medium and small. Very cool. What a way to play on glitter, Orly. Smart move!

I am so sweet on this blue gray. I wish I could carry off gray nail polish and I wish I could carry off some of the blues I see out there…and this is a perfect compromise! This concrete blue hints at periwinkle, too. It’s got a mild blue shimmer that runs through it, making this blue-gray a total winner in my book!

Random China Glaze Swatches

Wednesday, 3 March, 2010

I found these random China Glaze swatches I had done…don’t know when, but it seems like it was a while ago. 🙂

China Glaze’s tribute to Audrey Hepburn. They made a Tiffany blue just for her. As some or most of you know, Tiffany’s holds the patent for the blue so you can only get close to replication, but not the actual blue…or green. Or whatever color it is.

Secret Peri-wink-le

Indoors, no Flash (Top) and Indoors with flash (bottom)

Oddly enough…I really liked this color. It is a true periwinkle. While this color never looks good on me in reality, in my head I say it looks fabulous and keep on wearing it. 😀

Lubu Heels

Indoors, no flash (top); Outdoors (bottom)

Not one of my favorite colors. I thought this was the ghetto cousin of Midnight In Moscow. Yea, I went there.

Orly Metal Chic – Fall 2009/Spring 2010

Sunday, 21 February, 2010

Orly released a matte line of 3 colors called Metal Chic.

I’m not usually a fan of matte nail polish, but I found this collection cool, even if it’s not for me. I did two things on them – I took them as they were originally meant to be worn – as a matte. Then I slapped on a super shiny top coat because I was curious how it would look. Both were pretty and I really preferred the shiny version.

Removing the colors were a PAIN thanks to the glitter…but anyway, please excuse the dry cuticles. Acetone and a strict, “DO NOT USE ANY LOTIONS WITH THIS MATTE NAIL POLISH” makes for a very ooglay cuticle display.

Admittedly this wasn’t the best color for my skin tone…either matte or not, it just didn’t look right. But if I had to choose, I’d say the matte version is much better on me than the one with top coat.
With or without topcoat, this color is freaking gorgeous…
I prefer this with top coat. Can you blame me?
