Deborah Lippmann – Bad Romance and Bad Romance v China Glaze’s Mummy May I

Tuesday, 28 September, 2010

I won’t go busting into a rendition of Bad Romance for you. I will show you pictures instead.

Deborah Lippmann’s formula was a bit more jelly-like than China Glaze’s. However, in three coats BR was a bit more opaque and darker, coming across more on the black side than a jelly. China Glaze’s came off as a dark brown. The colors of the purple glitter are similar, but BR has the awesome hexagonal shapes while MMI has plain circles.

Good news on both colors? Fast drying. No jacked up brushes. However, both were three coaters because I didn’t get the initial color I wanted.

Picture spam begins now…

Both of these applications were three coats.

Orly – Out of This World

Monday, 13 September, 2010

Somewhere along the way, I’ve racked up this huge collection of purple polishes. I am a bit confused given that purple is not even my favorite color. When I last checked, I had 18 bottles of polish. Now I have closer to 30. How the heck did that happen?

Because the purples spring out and get me when I least expect it.

OOTH is no exception. In fact, I wore this when I went to see Craig Ferguson this past Saturday at Davies Symphony Hall. I am loathe to take this color off my nails. I’m thinking of foregoing swatching for the week. This color is that gorgeous for me.

It’s this  nearly black plum creme base with some lovely fine microglitter that just floats to the top and sits there, making the polish look purple…so effin’ gorgeous. It really is.

Wouldn’t you agree with me? Please do! 🙂

China Glaze – Blk-Bila-Bong

Ugh, such a difficult name, but what a wonderful color. It’s not quite officially fall, but I’m getting my dark on, yo!

What a lovely way to start the cool weather (thatneverquiteleft).

Orly – Space Cadet

Monday, 23 August, 2010

I am the first to admit that it takes a lot to wow me…especially in the nail polish department. I rarely swoon. It’s just how I am. It’s not that I’m jaded, it’s just that I’m truly fortunate to be able to have a great collection. Plus, I’m a huge fan of cremes. If I ever turn my head on glitters or shimmers, it really has to be a stand out.

Fall 2010 is that collection for Orly…well, this one is – Space Cadet.

Where can I even begin? I was rendered speechless on the first coat. Then on the second? I just could not stop staring. The color change, the glitter, the glitz oh my!

The formula was really one that I think a lot of polishes should strive for if they’re going to do something like this – fast drying and easy to work with. I did 3 coats because I was really curious to see how it would look past 2 and it really was just flat out gorgeous. I didn’t need a third coat. It was like gilding the lily.

Ok, I’ll stop raving and just show you the mother lode of pictures I took.

Small note – I honestly thought that this was close to a Nubar shade called Wildlife…Wildlife is this awesome duochrome color that is gorgeous in and of itself and I felt that Space Cadet is the pumped up rocker chick sister version of it.

Pic spam commences…NAO!

What wasn’t conveyed in the sunlight shot was this freaking AWESOME play of black and pink/purple glitter. It was really hard to capture.

Nubar’s Wildlife is below – the shade shots of Space Cadet above is what made me think of this color.

OPI – Russian Collection

Friday, 20 August, 2010

Though only a handful of colors have been swatched and only had a flash photo, this is the collection still makes my heart sing a little…and makes me weep because it’s been discontinued. Although OPI pisses me off with their jacked up brushes and somewhat unstable formula, there is no denying that they did a world of wonder with these colors.

You can still find some of these colors, but not all, should you decide to go on a hunt for them. I will re-swatch these (along with the French Collection) with proper lighting. For now, settle for the indoor and flash only.

I rocked Russian Navy for so long that I have 3 – yes THREE – bottles of them.

MAC – Black Enough

Monday, 9 August, 2010

I thought I didn’t have black nail polish, but it seems I do…I didn’t know that this color was a matte when I purchased it. Doesn’t matter – I can put a shiny top coat on it. 🙂

It’s been a while since I’ve worn black.

The formula dried quickly, despite the lack of a fast drying top coat. All coats were reasonably dry and fairly good to go in half an hour.

Rescue Beauty Lounge – Film Noir

Friday, 30 July, 2010

I had been gagging for this lovely dark creme. On RBL’s site it’s described as “Black orchid. Not for the faint-hearted. The intensely dark violet of a moonless midnight sky.”

I was truly hoping for a deep, dark, black-purple…a hearkening back to my silly goth club days. Sadly, this did not deliver. 🙁 Sad panda I am. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a gorgeous color but I just…was hoping for so much more. The formula was great because it was very opaque in 2 thin coats. However, RBL’s formulas for me have been hit and miss – this was a miss. It took forever to dry.

Nubar – Dark Castle – Fortress Collection, Spring 2010

Thursday, 8 July, 2010

I’m back in action…with pictures that I had taken almost 2 months ago. Sorry!

This is Nubar’s Fortress Collection from Spring 2010. While I love the names and the application of the polish this collection left me a bit underwhelmed. Even the one I had anticipated, Knight’s Armor, didn’t make me go squeeeee like I had hoped.

I apologize in advance for the bad application of nail polish – I was too excited and it really shows.

This wasn’t a harsh black, but more of a mellow black with a subtle silver shimmer through it. It appears grey in the bottle but when on me it looked a bit more like charcoal. I think the sun really washed out the potential but if you look at the shade shot it best represents the color.

Once I edit the other shots I’ll be posting them as soon as possible. I’m happy to be back in the loop!
